Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – This week, Sportsman of the Week, is South Beauregard soccer signalman Kenzie Hudler. Hudler’s father, Dwight Hudler, was the Knights’ head football coach, and decided he wanted to have a signal caller on the sidelines of the season to make things easier for his team instead of running back and forth sideways.

The coach who Hudler thought would be the signal-caller, decided he wanted to be on top of the box, and after that decision, he spoke to his daughter Kenzie, and asked if he would be willing to give it a try. Kenzie is a natural athlete as he was an All-District basketball player last season, and he also qualified for the state meeting last May for discus. Even so, it made sense that he might be willing to give it a try, but Hudler wanted to get it right.

The addition of Kenzie was very positive for the team as Coach Hudler stated that he had noticed the team’s pre-snap errors had increased dramatically.

The transition to signal-calling can be difficult, but Kenzie believes her participation in other sports has helped the process by saying, “If I can learn the game of basketball, then as long as my adrenaline is pumping, I can remember everything I need to remember. .”

On the occasion of sharing a side job with his daughter this year, Coach Hudler said, “it’s something you can’t really put a price tag on, it’s something I know will be with me for a long time.”

Knight duo Hudler will open their season on September 2 against DeRidder on the road.
