Wheeling, W.Va. – On Wednesday, the Wheeling University Athletic Department announced a partnership with Fox Sports Wheeling (1400 AM/103.9 FM) that will bring Wheeling University Football and Basketball games into more homes across Wheeling. Throughout the 2022-23 season, Fox Sports Wheeling will carry a select number of football and basketball games live. This will go along with coverage of all Wheeling University Athletic teams on MEC.TV and across the university’s social media channels throughout the 2022-23 season.
Fox Sports Wheeling covers a variety of sports from the high school level all the way up to the professional ranks right here in Wheeling. They cover Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins and Steelers games, Wheeling Nailers Hockey, Washington Wild Things Baseball, high school and college sports around the area. Wheeling University is one of two Mountain East Conference (MEC) schools covered by Fox Sports Wheeling, and they also provided coverage of the 2022 MEC Championship Tournament at WesBanco Arena.
Fox Sports Wheeling Marketing Consultant and Broadcaster Chris Thoburn will call Wheeling football and basketball games live on the radio and step into MEC.TV’s coverage of women’s soccer, men’s soccer and other sports as a broadcaster throughout the year. He is excited to cover Wheeling University Athletics and get the Cardinal name out into the community.
“We are very pleased to have a partnership with Wheeling University,” Thoburn said. “I’ve always loved the university and its sports. I’ve had family that graduated from Wheeling, including my mom, and I’ve always followed their sports. I’m excited to be back covering the Cardinals this season.”
The upcoming basketball schedule is still being finalized and dates that Fox Sports Wheeling will cover games have not yet been announced. They will cover four Wheeling University home football games and one away contest in 2022. Those games are:
September 1: vs. Seton Hill – at
September 24: vs. Glenville State – 6 p.m. 12.00.
October 8: vs. UNC Pembroke – at 12.00.
October 15: vs. Frostburg State – 6 p.m. 1 p.m.
