Raven rookie Charlie Kolar will undergo sports hernia surgery early next week, coach John Harbaugh said on Thursday.
Harbaugh said it was a lengthy college injury that Kolar had previously had surgery to repair.
“Now we clean this up,” Harbaugh said via Ryan Mink on the team’s side. “I wish it had been cleaned up sooner, but we didn’t really have it before. I think he thought he could handle it but got to the point where it needs to be fixed.
The selection in the fourth round will pass a long time.
Ravens’ receiver Rashod Bateman underwent a similar operation in mid-August last year to repair his college injury, and missed the first five matches.
Kolar was one of the two tight ends the team prepared. The Ravens also made Isaiah Likely the pick in the fourth round. Kolar was the 128th choice, and possibly the 139th choice.
He probably already stood out for The Raven by catching a long touchdown from Lamar Jackson in Tuesday‘s practice session.
Kolar made 168 receptions for 2,181 yards and 23 touchdowns in his career in Iowa. That includes 62 holds at 756 yards and six touchdowns last season.
