Lorena Wiebes made history by becoming the first woman to win a Tour de France stage in 33 years, and brought a little special person for her yellow jersey photo. The series between the Diamondbacks and the Nationals became interesting after Madison Bumgarner disputed Victor Robles’ home run celebration on Saturday, leading to a “clown show” on Sunday. Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum received a swag bag from Tom Brady and her celebration couldn’t be purer. JARED QUAY: For the first time in 33 years, the women’s Tour de France is back.
JARED QUAY: Lorena Wiebes out of the Netherlands beat the two-time Olympic champion Marianne Vos by winning the first stage in Paris. And the photo of the Dutch cyclist’s yellow jacket is iconic. Not only is this the first photo of a woman who has won the Tour de France stage in a long time, but she is celebrating with her son and a giant stuffed lion.
JARED QUAY: Wait, wait, wait, what? Isn’t he your son? No wonder the boy is making that face. I’m not sure I can keep up with the winners who steal children to complete their victory photos. Oh, he’s her friend’s son.
OK. Apparently, I agree that if Wiebes had won the stage, he would have taken the boy to the podium. Is using other people’s kids as podium props a thing now? Just when you think you’ve seen it all.
Baseball might have celebrated its Hall of Fame induction this weekend, but in my humble opinion, all the good things about baseball were in the Nationals-Diamondbacks series. Washington winger Victor Robles scored a home run against Arizona’s Madison Bumgarner, aka MadBum, on Saturday. And MadBum didn’t like the way Robles celebrated the senseless dinger with Washington under 6.

MADISON BUMGARNER: He’s a clown. Damn. Shameless. Shameless. It’s 7 to 1, you’ve hit your third homer of the year, you’re acting like Barry Bonds by breaking the record. Clean it up.
JARED QUAY: Damn. Calling someone a clown because you don’t like how they celebrated a home run? Well, Robles may have had the last laugh, because he showed up at Sunday’s game with a clown nose.
JARED QUAY: The trolling must have worked because the Nats took a 4 to 3 win over the Diamondbacks. And I will say it. These little fights will save America’s pastime, so keep it up, gentlemen.
Who wouldn’t want to get a swag bag from Tom Brady?
Maybe Bill Belichick. But anyone else would love some TB12 gear. If you want proof of that look, no further than Las Vegas star Kelsey Plum acting like a little girl at Christmas.
JARED QUAY: This is just a good and healthy reaction. I mean, the shirts are expensive, like $ 130. So, if you get one for free from GOAT, I’d say I’d be pretty excited too. If anything, you can sell it to make a quick buck. In fact, you could be earning a lot of money.
You know inflation is high, that’s a GOAT autographed shirt, you’d probably get at least $ 1,000 off that. But, I mean, what would you buy with that? Because inflation is high. You can’t even say … you know, I mean, these days, you can’t even get a couple of cheeseburgers from In-N-Out.
