The Buffalo Bills have entered the 2022 NFL season with a steady run of players. Although Devin Singletary is at the top of that list, one outlet believes he will still be a factor in the James Cook Bills.
CBS Sports has rated it among five new defenders for next season. The chef conducts the check by rounding out the ratings at No. 5.
In fantasy football, you want to draft defenders who are part of high-quality offenses, even if they are not in obvious defensive roles. That is precisely the reason why Cook is on this list. Bills has one of the funniest and most explosive attacks in football. This will lead to Buffalo often playing in the second half and for many of the mouths that are fed up, Cook’s 4.42 speed will add a new component to the back for Josh Allen.
And Cook’s part-catcher, part of the back, with soft, silky hands and running tracks in the groove and perimeter. Cook may not be a high-volume type, but OC Ken Dorsey’s new game plan is expected to suit the plays for him. Buffalo’s offensive line is also strong. And it’s not that the defense will feel comfortable loading the box against the Bills. Last year, Devin Singletary saw a loaded box in less than 14% of his races, the eighth-lowest rate among defenders in the standings.
Cook’s involvement in the passing game is what is clear for next season, perhaps ironically considering his position. All that is in control is how much the ball actually carries.
In college, he took the carts. However, his 230 total his career is relatively low compared to other options. He passed only 100 (113) times a year as a senior.
If Bills begins to rely on Cook’s skill to carry the ball, his workload will continue to increase throughout 2022.
Singletary will also have something to say about that, as she adapted well last season. It’s not the worst problem to have.
Cook was the team’s second-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.
