ADAMS, New York (WWNY) – A sports facility in Adams is getting a new look and a new name after a change of ownership, but still wants to provide quality sports programming and entertainment to the area.

A few years ago, Trevor Perry opened the South Jeff Sportsplex in Adams, where junior athletes can train 12 months a year.

In April, Perry decided to sell the Sportsplex, and Kristine and Shawn Maloney, Mark and Sarah Sugden and Jessica Winters stepped up and bought the facility.

“It just seemed like a natural fit. We love the community, we love the kids, we want to be here for them. We want to give everyone as many opportunities as we can,” said Kristine Maloney.

The purchase also came with a name change where the South Jeff Sportsplex was changed to the Xtreme Sportsplex.

Maloney says the name change was made because athletes from all over the North Country and beyond take advantage of the opportunity.

“Our cheer program has girls in Baldwinsville, so we’re definitely for the whole community. We’re not one school. The specific reason we chose lime green as a color, no specific area, no school had that. We want everyone to know that we’re open to the community and to everyone as a whole,” said Kristine Maloney.

As Maloney said, the two main sports at the Sportsplex are cheerleading and football, but the facility has hosted a variety of sports in the past, including football camps and softball showcases.

He says they want to not only continue it, but add to it.

“Basically, we’re an indoor training facility that’s over 9,000 square feet. Plus, we’re definitely an event center, and I think people forget that we’re an event center. Rob, I mean, we’re always looking for people to come in and just rent our space. Whether you want a family gathering, whether it’s winter time and you want to play cornhole and you want to do it here or disc golf or something like that. A birthday party,” Kristine Maloney said.

While the Sportsplex is the Xtreme’s main focal point, the group also uses other facilities in the area, such as the field behind the old Adams Elementary School and the fields at South Jeff Middle School, where Xtreme football held its practice Thursday night.

Shawn Maloney, Belleville Henderson University football coach, is in charge of the Xtreme football program.

“70% training for everyone from the shooting stars, ages 3 to 6 and up to 17, kids who are going to varsity. We have four teams in our NNYYSL league and we’re doing well, but it’s my job to make them better. So hopefully we will be a force to be reckoned with for the next year or so,” Shawn Maloney said.

The ownership group as a whole says their primary goal and ultimate goal for the Xtreme Sportsplex is to be there for area youth who want to excel in their individual sports and make them the best athletes they can be.

“My ultimate vision is to create a program that helps any kid that wants to. I don’t want to go recruiting, I want to help an individual, an athlete, whether it’s football, baseball or soccer. cheerleading. We all want to do that,” Shawn said Maloney.

Xtreme Sportsplex, who wants to help area athletes achieve their dreams both on and off the field.
