A few weeks after Roe was overturned, the Pennsylvania legislature adjourned for the summer – usually at the end of the legislative session here was the rapid passage of a piece of legislation. It’s the old story: amendments or bills of the ruling party (Republican) are voted on while the amendments of the party that is out of power are presented! That’s great!
And since I’m talking about power politics, why are bills to deal with the resettlement process of the Citizens Resettlement Commission constantly destroyed or blocked? Let’s remove as much of the politics of redistricting as possible by having a commission of independent citizens determine the boundaries of congressional maps. Yes?
Why not give the party out of power in Harrisburg a chance to take a more democratic approach by reforming the rules of the legislature? Remember that it was Donald Trump who cast doubt on the 2020 election mailers. But according to state law, states can’t even open ballots until 7 a.m. on Election Day. Republican lawmakers, however, have blocked attempts to change the law that would have resulted in a snap election! And is there any doubt what PA voters will hear from Republicans this November?
More of the same, wouldn’t you agree? Bottom line: Please consider voting for Democrats up and down the ballot this fall!
