During her tenure at the State House, Annette Glenn has become known for one thing – being less awful than her husband, Gary.

Gary’s regressive brand of neo-Christian-conservative politics, scorched-Earth campaign tactics and anti-LBGTQ + hate rhetoric didn’t garner him many fans in the Midland or in Lansing.

Annette is not Gary. She is her own person. But recently, Annette Glenn has become more like Gary Glenn when attacking her State Senate opponents Christian Velasquez and Tim Kelly.

You probably received Glenn’s latest campaign mailer targeting Velasquez. She claims he landed in federal court after ending a woman’s career at “a local company” so he could give her job to his friend. Glenn also sent out a press release dramatically returning the $ 1,175 that Velasquez donated to his 2018 and 2020 campaigns.

Her campaign was characterizing Glenn as a hero – “Rep. Glenn had the courage to act as a whistleblower about this court case,” said Stacey Ault, Glenn’s campaign manager. The campaign has tried to push the Daily News to publish a problematic interpretation of the lawsuit. The campaign challenges the Daily News to “just publish the facts” (that cherry-selected campaign of the lawsuit) so that readers “can judge for themselves.”

These are some facts. Judge for yourself.

You can also read court documents – and I mean read the whole thing – if you want the whole, unvarnished truth.

According to the 2016 civil lawsuit, the woman who had been with Dow Corning for 30 years injured her eye during a work trip. After his recovery, he awfully returned to the office that had been renovated when he recovered. She moved to another position. Then the job was eliminated.

The woman who sued Dow Corning claimed it violated the family & amp; The Medical Leave Act, the Civil Rights Act of Persons with Disabilities, for retribution under the Labor Disability Compensation Act and gender discrimination under the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.

She seeks $ 75,000 from Dow Corning.

Two years ago, Dow Corning asked the court for a summary decision – a direct decision about whether the case got service. The company’s motion was rejected. In his comments, the judge called the case “complex” but ordered that there were enough deviations between the parties to allow the case to progress.

Recently, Annette Glenn has become more like Gary Glenn when attacking State Senate opponents Christian Velasquez and Tim Kelly.

There is nothing in the lawsuit that represents well about Dow Corning or the eight or more people who were dismissed in the case. It seems that it’s an HR dream – and there’s no question Velasquez, the supervisor, played some role in this mess.

The parties settled out of court. Glenn’s campaign uses language to try to seem as if some considerations – other than Glenn – were made against Velasquez.

“I feel awful for voters and especially donors to Mr. Velasquez’s campaign, who he misled by failing to fully disclose this federal court decision up front,” Glenn said in a statement defending her attack.

There was no verdict, or verdict, in that case. There is no trial.

Sen. State Ken Horn called Glenn for the mailer, describing it as “either half cocked and less than half factual.”

In his press release, Glenn explained that Velasquez’s actions were allegedly so severe that he wanted to “dissociate” her with meaning.

Now, it takes a principled stance!

According to his own campaign finance records, Glenn has received thousands of dollars from House Speaker Lee Chatfield who was insulted since 2018.

You can remember Chatfield from previous adventures, such as trying to take a loaded rifle onto a plane at Pellston Regional Airport or a private meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., to think about the results of the Michigan 2020 election. Iparna generally accused him of raping him when he was a 15 -year -old student at the high school where Chatfield taught.

There is more to be said about Chatfield, but it seems sufficient. Chatfield created several PACs to support favorite candidates such as Glenn – on August 9, 2020 alone, he received $ 10,500 from the Chatfield Majority Fund.

So Glenn gave Chatfield back the thousands of dollars he gave her?

Glenn’s campaign refused to answer that question but responded with “unlike former Speaker Chatfield, who has not been tried, convicted, or even charged, Mr. Velasquez has been before a federal judge.”

Except Velasquez never appeared before a judge. There is no trial. There is no judgment.

Accused of raping Chatfield should be given the benefit of the doubt, but is dismissed in a Dow Corning lawsuit sufficient to convict Velasquez?

So much for taking a stand on that principle …

“It would be disappointing, though not surprising, if a newspaper in a small corporate town focused its coverage – as suggested by your question – in trying to discredit the whistle blower for telling the right voters,” Ault said in an email to me. .

The Daily News no longer endorses political candidates, and that’s fine with me. You don’t need us to tell you which candidate to vote for.

But for those of you who have supported Tim Glenn’s toxic politics for these years, thought it’s time to finally ask yourself why.

Annette has spent four years to show us who he is and if Lansing has changed him.

It’s disappointing, though not entirely surprising.
