Aisle 24, a Canadian chain with plans to expand into the US, welcomed customers to its latest cashierless store in Toronto.

A new Cashierless grocery store has opened in Toronto, with advanced security features to help both customers and retailers. The final store of Aisle 24 at 21 Ordnance Street is considered a “hyper-urban” store designed for a fast, convenient and safe shopping experience.

The security installation at the new Aisle 24 facility includes monitoring locks, custom access control, remote access and analytics that help team members manage their inventory and operations. The retailer worked with partners Smart Installs and Axis Communications to develop the integrated security system, which is powered by technologies including AI-enabled video management, mobile phones, 2N audio/video intercom and more.

Customers enter the store wirelessly, using an app on their phone to gain access through the door intercom. After they have finished shopping, they check out a frictionless registry kiosk.

“People appreciate having this kind of safety and security easily in their neighborhood or within the building where they live,” said John Douang, co-founder and CEO of Aisle 24. “By strengthening safety and security while gathering business intelligence, we are giving franchise owners the ability to monetize an empty space and build a business it’s profitable that puts fewer demands on their time than doing a grocery store.”

With the convergence of tools and its modern uses security technology provider, our goal is to keep customers and assets safe, while also allowing Aisle 24 to add data to inform daily and long-term business processes.”

This is the 16th Aisle 24 store in the Ontario and Quebec areas. The retailer plans to open up to 40 more stores in the Canadian suburbs of Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Halifax by the end of the year and is looking to expand in the U.S., South America and other parts of Europe and Asia.
