Healthy Living for ME invites Mainer adults of all ages to sign up for the network’s free August workshops focused on health and wellness. The workshops are open to the public and include two topics: managing diabetes and improving fitness and activity levels.

“Whether you’re dealing with a chronic illness like diabetes or looking for ways to improve your activity level, Healthy Living for ME can help. With workshops available online, in person and over the phone, we hope that many Mainers can find an option that works for them and can take advantage of these free resources to improve their health and wellness,” said Jennifer Fortin, Manager training and loyalty. of healthy living for ME, according to a news release from the health network.

• Better Health Now with Diabetes is conducted over the phone. Participants will receive a toolkit by mail and will work with the leader alone or in small groups. Topics covered include: techniques for managing symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, depression, anger, fear and frustration; appropriate exercise to maintain and improve strength and endurance; healthy food; correct use of medication; and working with health care providers.

This workshop is offered by Peter Alfond Prevention & Center for healthy living. It runs from August 3 to September 7.

• The Bingocize workshop combines a bingo-like game with exercise and health education with the goal of increasing functional fitness, health literacy and social engagement of older adults.

Bingocize is offered in person by Healthy Living for ME SeniorsPlus network partner starting Tuesday, August 9th. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Oct. 13 at the Education Center at SeniorsPlus at 8 Falcon Road. in Lewiston.

• Living Well with Diabetes will include two meetings in August, one online and one in person. This workshop is designed to help people with type 2 diabetes, those with prediabetes and their supporters learn to live well. Topics covered include: techniques for managing symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, depression, anger, fear, and frustration; appropriate exercise to maintain and improve strength and endurance; healthy food; correct use of medication; and working with health care providers.

The online meeting is offered by the network partner SeniorsPlus. It will take place from 13:00 to 15:30. On Thursdays, from August 11 to September 15.

• Living Well with Diabetes face-to-face is offered by network partner Spectrum Generations. It will take place from 13:00 to 15:30. On Thursdays starting August 25th and running through September 29th. The workshop will be held at the Cohen Community Center at 22 Town Farm Road in Hallowell.

For virtual workshops, participants who do not have the necessary technology may be eligible to borrow an iPad from Healthy Living for ME to participate.
