Around the world, food prices are rising. But because households in lower-income countries tend to spend a higher percentage of their income on food, the pain in those regions is often more extreme. Many agricultural prices have soared ahead of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, an agricultural heavyweight. Prices have dropped recently, but the lower costs won’t appear in stores or on counters for months.
By 2030, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations estimates that nearly 670 million people will face hunger – 8% of the world’s population.
