A viral tweet asking internet users to pick just one fast food burger as their favorite has taken the internet by storm this week.
Twitter account TodayInSportsCo shared the tweet on Sunday with pictures of nine different fast food burgers and wrote: “Tough choice. Pick one.”
With thousands of replies, likes and retweets, the debate has been hugely popular online, with fast food fans sharing some pretty strong opinions when it comes to which burger is best.
In the photo, the choice was narrowed down to just nine popular fast-food orders, including: Culver’s Double Butterburger, In-N-Out’s Double Double, McDonald’s Double Quarter Pounder, Whataburger Double Meat Whataburger, Wendy’s Daves Double, Carl’s Jr. . 1/3lb thickburger, Burger King’s the whopper, Shake Shack’s shackburger and finally the Five Guys cheeseburger.
Sparking a raging debate with many passionate responses, the choice of which burger is the best has surprisingly split the internet. Fast food fans were quick to respond, giving detailed reasons why their chosen burger should get the top spot.
“I see Whataburger in 8 wrong answers,” wrote one commenter, while another said, “Easiest decision I made today. Culver’s.”
“Five guys at a time, and their fries,” said another Twitter user. While another answer said: “Shake Shack is the only real answer. And if you don’t agree, it’s because you’ve never had it.”
While the debate continues on Twitter, information from Statista recently revealed the leading burger restaurant chains in the United States by sales in 2020.
Five guys don’t even follow it
McDonald’s topped the list with over $40 million in sales, followed by Wendy’s with $10 million. Burger King, Whataburger, Culver’s, Five Guys, Carl’s Jr, In-N-Out and Shake Shack all appear further down the list.
Research by career advice site Zippia reported that the US had over 197,000 fast food restaurant businesses as of 2021, with the industry predicted to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.1 percent between 2020 and 2027.
On any given day in the United States, it is estimated that approximately 36 percent—or 84.4 million adults—consume some type of fast food.
Given their popularity, it’s also not surprising that hamburger-focused restaurants are the favorite, representing 31 percent of the total fast food market.
“Five guys,” another fast food fan replied on Twitter: “Runner up is Whataburger.”
“Culver is the top choice for sure,” said another commenter. While one Twitter user wrote: “Shackburger from Shake Shack, hands down!”
“I’d have to go with Burger King, but I don’t have three choices here, so I’ll get back to you,” said another reply.
