TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Governor Laura Kelly visited a local Holton business to promote the economic development protected under her tenure.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly said on Friday, July 29, she continued her statewide economic development tour in Holton. He said he contacted Jackson Co. leaders. Chamber of Commerce to visit a local family- and small business with seniors – More Than Lemons Hot Glass.
Governor Kelly said More Than Lemons is a hot glass art store and gallery featuring collections of Kansas Artists. In addition to the store, the Lemons family also runs AirBnB.
“I travel with entrepreneurs across Kansas because small businesses power our economy and have helped us drive economic prosperity,” Kelly said. “Thank you to Holton hero and small business owner, April Lemon, for taking the time to speak about what my Administration can do to help businesses like hers grow and thrive.”
In June, Kelly noted that he had signed a bill to provide $50 million in grants to small businesses like More Than Lemons. He also brought back the Kansas Main Street Program in 2019 which saw Holton return to the program to receive tools and equipment that support the development of downtown districts.
The Governor also visited the mural project currently under construction in Holton Downtown Square. He said Holton was one of 14 rural residents awarded grants through the Rural Mural and Public Art Program earlier in July.
