Since President Barack Obama left office in 2017, he and First Lady Michelle Obama have been busy. The Obamas struck a deal with Netflix to produce a series of projects under their production company Higher Ground. They also signed record-breaking book deals and received a $65 million advance from Penguin Random House for worldwide rights to their memoirs.

Since that book deal, Michelle Obama published Becoming in November 2018 and it became an instant bestseller. It was even adapted into a documentary on Netflix.

Four years later, the former first lady publishes another book with Penguin Random House, The Light We Carry. “I never thought I’d be the author of one book, let alone two. But I’ve found that writing this has been a way for me to gather my thoughts and find more clarity during this time. So I hope this book means as much to you as it does to me,” Obama shared on Instagram.

Following on from The Light We Carry, here’s a guide to all the books written by former First Lady Michelle Obama.

The light we carry: overcoming in uncertain times

“This book is a collection of stories and practices that have helped me solve all the challenges and questions that keep us up at night: How do I know I’m good enough? How can I put myself at the table ? Can I overcome my fears?” Obama wrote in the announcement on Instagram.

“When we are able to recognize our own light, we have the power to use it,” he writes in the book. In the tome, Obama will explore issues related to race, gender, and visibility, and will help readers “work through fear, find strength in community, and live boldly,” according to a statement.

The Light We Carry is out on November 15, 2022.

Michelle Obama’s “deeply personal” early memoir detailed her childhood in Chicago during her time in the White House.

“Writing BECOMING has been a deeply personal experience. I talk about my roots and how a girl from the South Side found her voice,” she shared ahead of the book’s release. “I hope my journey inspires readers to find the courage to become who they aspire to be. I can’t wait to share my story.”

As of November 2020, Becoming had sold over 14 million copies worldwide.
