‘Sing 2’ is chasing a record in Netflix’s Top 10 charts.

With the win, Uncharted and Purple Hearts have earned the top 10 popular movie premiere spots on Netflix today. But the real story is Sing 2, which is on the verge of reaching a milestone that no movie on Netflix has ever achieved.

Here’s how today’s Top 10 ranked:

You’ll notice that Sing 2 is in fourth place, which is nothing spectacular. It’s a far cry from its early days of dominance in late June and early July, when the film spent ten non-consecutive days at number one.

But when you take a closer look, that fourth place is pretty impressive…for a movie that’s on its 50th day in the Top 10 charts.

Yes, that’s right. Today marks Sing 2’s 50th consecutive day in the Top 10 charts. That’s a feat matched by only five other films, which means that Sing 2 is within striking distance of becoming Netflix’s most popular film of all time during the Top 10 (which began in February 2020).

Here are the 10 longest running lists in Netflix history:

It’s actually quite significant for Sing 2 to surpass Despicable Me, arguably the most successful film of any era in the Top 10. Despicable Me has spent 140 non-consecutive days in the Top 10 charts, which is more than any other film. So if Sing 2 stays on Netflix for a significant amount of time, it could replace Despicable Me as top dog.

Sing 2 needs just two days to beat How the Grinch Stole Christmas, one more week to beat The Grinch and Vivo and two more weeks to beat The Mitchells Vs. To beat The Machines. If Sing 2 can do all that, it will become the most popular animated film on Netflix of all time in the Top 10. And if it lasts another four days after that, Sing 2 will surpass We Can Be Heroes and become the sole owner of the record.

It’s not that crazy to imagine that happening. Like I said, it’s pretty crazy that Sing 2 is ranking this so well on its 50th day. Sing 2’s worst position since its debut on June 22 is eighth place earlier this week. But it didn’t take long for the films to rebound, proving that kids-oriented content has tremendous staying power on Netflix.

At this point, we’re just counting the days. If Sing 2 lasts 17 more days, it will surpass all other movies that have been streamed on Netflix in the last two and a half years.
