If you’ve watched The Boys, the superhero satire on Prime Video, you know the series is no stranger to poking fun at corporate antics. Now the show has a new target in mind: Warner Bros. Discovery.
The newly combined company made headlines last week after canceling the nearly completed feature film Batgirl and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, a sequel to 2020’s Scoob. In addition, HBO Max quietly removed several shows and movies.
One of the withdrawn films was An American Pickle, which stars Seth Rogen – also an epic about The Boys – as an Eastern European Jewish immigrant who is kept in a vat of pickles and wakes up in modern-day New York, where he tries to blend in with the help of his the only surviving descendant.
On Friday, one of The Boys’ Twitter accounts, @VoughtIntl, teased the upcoming merger of HBO Max and Discovery+ into a single streaming service.
“Vought consolidates your streaming into one app that’s fairly easy to use. VTV+, VNN+ and VSN+ are now part of Vought++! It’s a plus-plus, for just an extra $29.99 a month,” the account tweeted. “Rewatch Dawn of Seven with the boys, dive into Property Flippers with the girls and more!”
The show’s other Twitter account, @TheBoysTV, responded to the tweet with a clear reference to Warner Bros. Discovery quietly pulled content from HBO Max over the past few months.
“These bellends also pulled all their Starlight, Soldier Boy and Seth Rogen content. Sign out,” the account says.
Based on the events of the third season finale, it makes sense why Vought would pull the Starlight, Soldier Boy, and Seth Rogen content, though we won’t spoil it for readers here. Let’s just say that Starlight and Soldier Boy find themselves on the wrong side of Homelander and Vought, and Rogen’s extracurricular activities with the special supe might be something the company wants to distance itself from.
Those stars also pulled all their Starlight, Soldier Boy, and Seth Rogen content. Log off. https://t.co/gAHAvouEg4
