The Center for the Arts, Lake Sunapee Region is proud to announce this year’s grant recipients. Prizes are awarded to students who wish to develop their talents in the visual, performing or literary arts. This year, nine students from the Lake Sunapee region were awarded scholarships to continue their creative studies.

Four seniors were awarded scholarships because they plan to develop their talents as they begin their college careers. Congratulations to the following seniors: Mak Eldridge of Warner, who will attend Plymouth State University to pursue a career in theater and music technology; Kayla Wimer of New London, recipient of The Hunting Scholarship for Visual Arts, who attends Emerson College majoring in Film and Media Arts; Jonathan Glidewell, a New London singer-songwriter and recipient of The Rizza Scholarship for Performing Arts, who continues his studies at Gordon College; Daniel Courtine of New London and recipient of The Lang Memorial Scholarship, who will attend Bowdoin College in Maine and pursue a career in medicine and the performing arts; and Maddox Cahill, a visual artist from Sunapee, who attends Thomas College in Waterville, Maine.

In addition, scholarships were awarded to the following students who attended summer art programs. Anya Moorehouse of Sunapee, Sydney Laurendeau of Bradford and Emily Pirone of Warner will attend a The Dance Education Training Workshop in Boston. And our youngest recipient, Saoirse Carmody van Warner, seventh-grade student, will enroll in a three-week intensive ballet class at the Kearsarge Conservatory for Performing Arts.

Sue Elliott, Chair of the CFA Scholarship Committee, said, “We are delighted to recognize this year’s highly talented recipients. They represent the best creative students in our region and we invite the public to clear the date for us program on the first Friday of January to meet them, see them perform and view their work.”
