Netflix’s new thriller Keep Breathing is climbing the Netflix charts. After debuting in second place on July 28, the series took the top spot after a binge weekend in several countries, including the UK and US.

The limited series follows the crash of a private jet in the Canadian wilderness. Sole survivor Liv (played by Melissa Barrera) must contend with an inhospitable environment—as well as her own personal trauma—in order to survive. But despite its popularity, viewers have shared mixed reviews of the new show.

Some enjoyed it a lot, praising Melissa Barrera’s performance in the suspenseful drama. One wrote (opens in new tab): “This was crazy and phenomenal. I was arrested from beginning to end, it was an intense marathon. Melissa Barrera mastered everything the character was feeling and delivered in a magnificent way.”

“Keep Breathing was amazing,” wrote another viewer (opens in new tab). “Melissa Barrera’s performance was so intense and pure and I hope she gets the recognition she deserves. Can’t WAIT to see her in #Scream6.” A third added (opens in new tab): “Keep Breathing is a beautiful masterpiece. The tears it made me cry at the end are unbelievable.”

However, reviews haven’t been all that positive, with the show currently sitting at just 43 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Many viewers also took to social media to share their woes about the latest Netflix series. A viewer argued (opens in new tab): “Too many flashbacks and hallucination scenes and not enough survival.”

Another wrote (opens in new tab): “While the premise itself is interesting, the execution is boringly predictable. Take away the filler and it might work better as a movie than a series.” Another agreed, adding (opens in new tab): “Keep Breathing should focus more on her survival than her flashbacks. In that case, we should make a show just about her life.”
