EXCLUSIVE: Prime Video’s The Wilds will not be returning for a third season. I understand the cast and crew of YA survival drama have just been briefed on the decision, which comes almost three months after Season 2’s May 6 release.
One of the last shows to be developed and produced by the late Jamie Tarses, The Wilds was a key series for Prime Video and Amazon Studios. It was part of the very first batch of YA pilots ordered by Amazon Studios, shortly after Jennifer Salke took the reins as part of an expansion in the space. It was the first YA series to premiere on Prime Video and the first to go into a second season.
Prime Video remains committed to young adult content with a roster that includes recent hits The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Invincible, as well as the upcoming Shelter series, based on the first novel in the Mickey Bolitar trilogy based on best-selling author Harlan Coben.
The Wilds, whose storyline drew comparisons to Showtime’s Yellowjackets from the start, caused quite a stir when it launched on December 11, 2020 and was quickly renewed. Reaction to the teen drama has been more muted since his return last May.
Season 2 of The Wilds continues to follow the harrowing ordeal of eight teenage girls who are mysteriously stranded on a deserted island. The new season also focuses on a new group of survivors, all boys, who find themselves in the same perilous situation. Both groups are forced to overcome emotional and physical obstacles given their extreme circumstances.
The cast of the series includes Rachel Griffiths, David Sullivan, Troy Winbush, Sophia Ali, Sarah Pidgeon, Jenna Clause, Erana James, Mia Healey, Helena Howard, Reign Edwards and Shannon Berry. The second group of survivors in Season 2 was joined by Zack Calderon, Aidan Laprete, Nicholas Coombe, Charles Alexander, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Reed Shannon, Tanner Ray Rook, and Alex Fitzalan.
The Wilds was created by Sarah Streicher, who was an executive producer for Dylan Clark Productions along with showrunner Amy Harris, the late Tarses of Fanfare and Dylan Clark. The series was co-produced by Amazon Studios and ABC Signature, part of Disney Television Studios.
