Perversely, the exhibition focuses on the pachuquísmo experience of women, rather than men. This 1940s Mexican American counterculture in the United States, associated with zoot suit fashion, jazz and swing music, emerged during a time when this marginalized community was fighting for rights and equality in the United States. .
Presenting the often untold history of the Pachucas, Pachuquísmo highlights and fuses two aspects of their culture through beautiful music and dance.
The traditional music of Zapateado and Veracruz represents the Mexican heritage of these protesting women while jazz music and tap dancing represent their American experience. The result is impactful.
