NORTHERN PORT – Artemis Gallery celebrates its fourth opening of the season from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 21st.

This group exhibition showcases works by various Maine-based and Maine inspirers, including acrylic painter Geoff Disston, sculptor Robert Haskell, acrylic painter Bibby Loring, oil painter Maja Paumgarten and sculptor Pat Toogood.

Part of the sales of this show will benefit the Olympia Snowe Women’s Leadership Institute.

Artemis Gallery is located in Northeast Harbor at 1 Old Firehouse Lane. The show will run until August 3rd.

CITY MOUNTAIN – ArtWaves holds a birthday masquerade and fundraiser from 5: 30-9: 30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at its campus in Town Hill.

Fundraising revenue will go to children’s programming, a new boiler system, parking expansion and campus upgrades. All donations will be matched.

SOUTHWEST PORT – Award-winning writer Annaliese Jakimides will teach a workshop at Wendell Gilley Museum on Saturday, July 23, from 9 a.m. until noon, concentrating on lightning fiction.

“Flash fiction is known under many names, including sudden fiction, short stories and microfiction. Although people often think it’s a ‘new’ form of writing, it exists as long as we’ve written stories,” Jakimides said.

This event takes place in person only at the museum and costs $ 25 per person for non-members or $ 20 for museum members. Location is limited and registration is required at www.wendellgilleymuseum.org/events.

NORTHEAST PORT – Take your favorite teddy bear or adult animal and join a bear-themed reading aloud and picnic.

The Northeast Harbor Library is hosting a Teddy Bear Picnic for children and families from 11 a.m. until noon on Monday, July 25, on the library lawn. All ages are welcome. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. No registration is required for this free event.

Food and beverages will be provided but bring a towel or blanket to sit on.

ELLSWORTH – The Grand makes auditions for a stage version of the classic film musical “Willy Wonka”. There are roles available for all ages.

Auditions will be held 6-8: 30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, and 1-3: 30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, at The Grand in Ellsworth.

Actors will be seen in turn and are asked to come ready with 16 to 32 beats of classical music theater song. Bring scores for the accompanist with the singing section marked. Acapella singing or karaoke tracks are discouraged.

Actors may be asked to sing or read from the script as well as learn simple choreography.

Presentation dates are September 30, October 2 and October 7-9.

BAR HARBOR – Ed Crockett, Portland-based state representative, president of Capt’n Eli’s Soda and author of “The Ghosts of Walter Crockett” will sign books at Sherman’s Maine Coast Book Shop in Bar Harbor from 10 a.m. until noon on July 30th.

“The Ghosts of Walter Crockett”, published by Islandport Press, captures the joy of youth, love of family and search for redemption as they play against a backdrop of poverty, uncertainty and the ever-present ghost of an alcoholic and homeless father. whose shortcomings, choices, and fate haunt a young man and tear his confidence.

Crockett, a native of Munjoy Hill, holds degrees from both the University of Maine at Orono and Boston College.
