The Nigerian Government announced that it is collaborating with Amazon Prime Video to train Nigerians on local content in the film production industry and promote opportunities.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday in a meeting with officials of Amazon Prime Video towards building the capacity of Nigerians for local content in movie production.
Other Nigerian agencies that attended the meeting include the Film Corporation of Nigeria, the National Broadcasting Commission, the National Board of Film and Video Censors and Advertising Practitioners of Nigeria (APCON).

Mohammed said the point of the meeting was to start discussions with Amazon on building capacity for quality local content in the nation’s fast growing film industry and to empower youth through training on local content, for employment opportunities. “We also discussed that, yes, we are a great film country, but we need more capacity building; individuals need more long-term investment,” he said.
The minister added that Amazon would launch its services in August.
Ayanna Lonian, Director and Head of Amazon Prime Video, Major Studio Worldwide Licensing Strategy, said the discussions would touch on how to showcase the best Nigerian content, adding that this “would be done alongside supporting capacity development of local and upcoming film producers. artists.”
“Streaming services were relatively new in Nigeria, so the company was entering into long-term financing models for the overall benefit of the nation’s film industry,” he added.
