Our first look at Russell Crowe’s boxing movie Prizefighter can be found here, and the gloves are good and true.

Prizefighter, released earlier this year, is a full-length biopic that tells the true story of James ‘Jem’ Belcher’s rise to boxing champion at just 19 years old.

Set over 200 years ago, Prizefighter is positioning itself as a must – see for boxing fans, continuing the progress of the sport and transforming it into the boxing we think of today.

Along with the first clip of Russell Crowe’s Thor: Love and Thunder in action, which you can watch above, Amazon Prime Video has released the official summary of the play.

“In 1800 Jem Belcher was the youngest ever boxing champion in the world,” he begins. “Belcher led his early fights with his unique skill, speed, and scientific approach and soon became a Champion of England, a natural talent, possessed of magic, style and grace.”

Of course, nothing is simple in life, and Jem is facing a “long, grueling road to recovery that he finally sees competing in a period of dead endurance” after a life-changing accident.

Prizefighter writer himself is led by Matt Hookings, and Russell Crowe takes on the likes of Ray Winstone, Marton Csokas, Jodhi May of The Witcher, Julian Glover, Steven Berkoff, and Viking star Lucy Martin.

Speaking to Digital Spy recently, Lucy Martin opened up about the film’s “amazing cast” and “amazing performances.”

“If you’re into boxing, don’t miss it. It’s epic, you know?” she told us, before confirming that some of the combat scenes are very real.

“I was standing there, on the side of the ring, watching some great boxing,” she revealed. “Some of it was not even acted upon. There were real punches. So, yes, it’s exciting.

“I can’t really wait to see it for myself.”

Prizefighter will be available for streaming on Prime Video from July 22nd.
