The British film will be released exclusively on Netflix UK in July 2022.
Netflix has acquired the international rights to the crime drama Rogue Agent (also known as Freegard) in the UK. In particular, the film is not coming to Netflix in the United States. Starring Gemma Arterton and James Norton, the film will hit Netflix UK in late July 2022.
Directed by Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson, the film is based on the true story of British swindler Robert Hendy-Freegard, who disguised himself as an MI5 agent while working as a bartender and car salesman.
Gemma Arterton leads the cast and plays alongside Sarah Goldberg, James Norton (who himself plays Freegard), Shazad Latif, Freya Mavor, Jimmy Akingbola and Julian Barrat.
Netflixers worldwide can discover more about the cheater in the recently released Netflix Original documentary series The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman, which was released in January 2022.
The film is set to premiere in the US in August 2022, but it will not hit Netflix UK until July 27, 2022.
Based on our data at the moment, only Netflix in the UK and Ireland are currently set to carry the film, as other regions do not include the title in their upcoming sections.
Netflix regularly acquires international distribution rights for movies in select regions, where they consider the price tag to carry the movie acceptable, and where they believe the movie may be popular. For example, earlier this year we saw Netflix UK and Ireland download the streaming rights to Nightride exclusively.
Will Rogue Agent be on Netflix in the United States?
In the US, the film will be distributed by IFC Films and AMC + (AMC is owned by AMC + and IFC Films), although we may see the film drop on Netflix US in the coming years. Most recently, we saw the release of the British film, Official Secrets, on the service last September. We also saw Disappearance that Clifton Hill added to Netflix US in late May 2022, and that made it good enough to be in Nielsen’s top 10s.
