The annual PopUP Artist at Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) is in full swing with the second event taking place on July 10th. The PopUP happens three times every summer.

“It’s good for people to see other people doing the hand work, the creative work,” says Sarah Bearup-Neal, Manager of the GAAC Gallery. “We spend so much time using our hands to clean our keyboards. But your hands are so important to so many other things.”

The PopUP transforms the GAAC parking lot and garden into an open-air exhibition of various artists from a variety of media, in addition to events.

Members of the public are encouraged to watch the artists at work and learn the creative process.

Bearup-Neal says she wants other people to be inspired to create because you don’t have to be a professional to enjoy or make art.

“Creative work is the affirmation of life and not everyone is going to be a famous painter,” he says. “But my hope is that these PopUPs give people an insight or an insight or inspiration to go and find what really ignites their interest and their creative work.

The PopUPs are part of the GAAC 6ft Apart Art series born out of the COVID-19 pandemic where the building was still in operation but was unable to have people inside.

The next PopUP is Aug. 13 from 11-3 p.m. located at the Glen Arbor Arts Center at 6031 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.
