“INTERWOVEN STORIES”: Artist/activist Diana Weymar will give an artistic talk on July 11 at 5:30 pm. at the Princeton Arts Council’s Taplin Gallery, where her community sewing project, “Entwined Stories,” is on display.

The Arts Council of Princeton (ACP) will host Diana Weymar for an arts talk on Monday, July 11 at 5:30 pm. in your Taplin Gallery. Artist-activist Weymar (Princeton ’91) is the creator of “Interwoven Stories,” a community sewing project on display at the ACP’s Taplin Gallery.

The lecture will be broadcast live for those unable to attend. Visit artscouncilofprinceton.org for free registration.

Weymar facilitated “Entangled Stories” as ACP Artist-in-Residence in 2016, creating a special dialogue within the Princeton community. Each seamstress was given a blank fabric page to tell a story through their memories, honor loved ones or friends, or return home to a favorite place through needle and thread. The response to this project exceeded the wildest expectations of the organizers. Each page spoke to the generosity, diversity, spirit, commitment and creativity of the community, and ultimately, over a hundred completed pages were donated to “Interwoven Stories 2016” and displayed at Taplin Gallery to mark the culmination of his residency.

After taking the project internationally starting in 2018, Weymar brought it home last spring to Princeton to give past participants the opportunity to revisit their past work and invite new couturiers to get involved. Seamstresses from across the country signed up to voice this group exhibition, resulting in over 300 pages on display at the Taplin Gallery through July 11. This 2022 exhibition is the final chapter of “Intertwined Stories” and the pages will be collected in a future publication available for purchase through the ACP.

Weymar is the creator and curator of the Tiny Pricks Project, in addition to “Interwoven Stories” and several other public art projects. She has showcased her projects internationally, as well as posting works on her Instagram account @tinypricksproject daily. The Tiny Pricks Project physical collection has over 5,000 pieces. In addition to collaborating with writers, artists, journalists, photographers and politicians, Weymar has worked with non-profit organizations on a variety of humanitarian issues.
