Before the MCU became the vast and cohesive enigma it is today, Marvel’s film and television adaptations were once made under a number of banners. Marvel Studios had the big-screen MCU, Fox had the X-Men and Fantastic Four, Sony had The Amazing Spider-Man, and Marvel TV developed many projects on various networks, including the six series of Defenders Saga on Netflix.
From 2015 to 2019, Marvel TV released thirteen seasons of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher on Netflix combined. Undoubtedly there have been many ups and downs in terms of quality and reactions, but Daredevil and Jessica Jones are generally considered to be the most consistently high quality.
Jessica Jones starred Krysten Ritter as a stubborn and emotionally tormented super-engine private investigator who had previously spent years under the mind control of David Tennant’s villain and manipulative Kilgrave. All 39 episodes of the series have just made the leap to Disney + along with the rest of the Defenders Saga, opening the doors to countless new viewers.
Rumors abound that Jones will join Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock returning to the MCU, just as the blind lawyer recently did in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Now Disney + has made a surprising update of the existing three seasons to change the title of Jessica Jones overall.
Disney+ Renames Netflix’s Jessica Jones
Disney + has updated the title card for Jessica Jones to rename the series to AKA Jessica Jones. The previous Netflix series is still referred to by its original title on the Disney + homepage, with the updated title only reflected during the introductory sequence. Nicknamed Jessica Jones was the original title for the series when it was developed at ABC prior to its transfer to Netflix.
The news comes after Disney + recently advertised the Defenders Saga, cryptically promising that it’s “all tied up,” amid rumors of the characters returning to the MCU.
Insider MyTimeToShineHello shared a rumor that Jessica Jones will return in the Daredevil revival of Disney + but did not offer a word on whether Krysten Ritter will reprise the role of P.I.
Why Did Jessica Jones’ Title Change?
With Disney + ranking a revival of Daredevil, it’s wildly speculated that Marvel Studios may be setting the path to reviving all of Marvel’s Netflix series. See the article : The most iconic Foxes in Video Games. A slightly updated Jessica Jones title is just the latest indication that the canceled series – along with Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and The Punisher – may be ready for a return in the future.
Perhaps Disney + may have renamed the project to AKA Jessica Jones as a means to create a distinction of whatever plans Marvel Studios has for the hero of Krysten Ritter. Given the title of each episode of the three seasons begins with “AKA”, the updated title is appropriate, especially since it was the original name for the series during concept.
As Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige prepares to reveal the future of the MCU later this month at San Diego Comic-Con, perhaps the former Netflix heroes may be part of the proceedings. Daredevil receiving an official disclosure already looks more than likely, but only time will tell what plans Disney has for the rest of the Defenders.
All three seasons of Alinome Jessica Jones are streaming now, exclusively at Disney +.
