The South Dakota Arts Council has purchased 13 new pieces for the state’s public art collection through the Art for State Buildings program.
The recent acquisitions were selected by a five-member SDAC advisory committee, which reviewed 62 proposals and based its decisions on quality of work; the relevance of the artwork to South Dakota’s environment, history, heritage, or culture; professional experience of the artist; permanence and security, as required for public works of art.
The artwork selected for purchase represents artists from across the state, including:

The Art for State Buildings program was created in 2008 for the purpose of showcasing the work of talented South Dakota artists and building a permanent state art collection for display in publicly accessible areas of state government buildings.
