In a massive coup for Amazon Prime, the video streamer first won the UK Champions League rights that were made available to BT.
From the 2024/25 season, Amazon will be showing the big games on Tuesday evening all the way to the semi-finals, a total of around 20 matches.
BT, which has held the rights since ITV and Sky acquired in 2015, will continue to show both the Champions League and smaller European soccer competitions, the Europa League and the Conference of Europe League.
Amazon has been steadily increasing its presence in the international sports rights market, showcasing the US Open Tennis and several Premier League football weekends over the past few years.
The move has been described as “truly momentous” by Alex Green, Managing Director of Prime Video Sport Europe.

“We have seen millions of Prime members in the UK since 2018. Enjoy sports live on Prime Video and it was this passion and energy that led us to this exciting next step, ”he added. “We’re looking forward to bringing fans a headline spot in Europe’s most prestigious football every Tuesday, and we’ll have more details on our broadcast in the future.”
The BBC was also a big winner of the sports rights package, and will be broadcasting the Wednesday night events of 2024 for at least three years.
“The UEFA Champions League is a great addition to our BBC football portfolio and we look forward to starting in 2024,” said BBC Sport director Barbara Slater.
