But really, the best way to experience video game consoles is to simply play them. For each device, we compared how easy it was to get to the home screen and set up an account, right out of the box. We tested a variety of games, pushing the consoles to the limit to make sure there’s no drop in frame rate and they don’t overheat over a prolonged period of use. We had consumer testers compare graphics quality and asked kids to play the game to see which consoles they enjoyed the most. While we include the specs in our review for the more “techy” folks, you can find a great console for your needs without digging too deep into it.

While it’s nearly impossible to agree on the best video game console of all time, they’re all getting faster, lighter, and beefier in their offerings. There isn’t a bad choice on this list, it’s really a matter of preference and features that matter most to you. Here is a list of some things to consider if you are looking for a new video game console:
✔️ Storage: Of all the specs, when it comes to gaming, storage is one of the most important aspects. If you don’t have space to download a game, it doesn’t matter how powerful your console is; you can’t play what you don’t have. If you don’t mind spending a few extra bucks, for any console I recommend getting an external hard drive, to always make sure you have space available. Also, you should see if the console has an HDD (Hard Disk Drive) or an SSD (Solid State Drive). SSDs will load games and power up consoles much faster than HDDs and generally provide a higher degree of performance than HDDs.
✔️ Portability: What do you want to do with your console? Do you want to set it and never move it? Are you interested in taking it on a trip? Do you want to take it to a friend’s house? Maybe you just live in a small apartment and don’t want to take up too much space. Don’t buy a large console expecting to take it on long car trips or while on vacation.
