Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz hopped on last week’s episode of The Hang Zone on Sportsradio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket [KTCK-AM] to talk video games, fantasy trash talk and embarrassing reality… Here’s what he had to say . Answers have been edited for length and clarity.

Have you ever played Halo with Baker Mayfield? Have you ever been asked that?

Schultz: “I didn’t. It’s much easier if you have a hard time talking about games. There are a lot of games in the news regarding this offseason quarterback, indeed. Kyler (Murray), Baker. Like, they were just going through Halo and Call of Duty. It’s a little different if it’s you. It was an interesting offseason.”

When you’re in the news this offseason, it’s all contract this, contract that. Is it a beating, being a professional player and being asked?

Schultz: “You share it a little bit. I think that’s one thing I’m good at. At the end of the day, I just let (my people) deal with it. I’ve never been the type to talk about another man’s money. I just think it’s ridiculous that we’re making a whole big story about a guy and his life. So I don’t get involved in all that stuff. It’s getting a little awkward for me. You realize that’s part of the fans’ interest in the league. That’s our deal too. We feel weird about it. But that’s part of the deal.”

Would you rather have people say you don’t deserve to be a third-round fantasy pick?

Schultz: “Don’t even get me started on fantasy. The DMs I get from fantasy, and watching some of them, man. In fantasy, I’m kind of nameless. I can go to the store, which is great. I’ll still get these DMs that are like ‘Oh my God. Screw your whole family.’ Like, “you’re the mistake of being born.” Some of them are bad. I don’t know if I can say them all. I got death threats for sure, over the fantasy. I was getting death threats because I scored too many fantasy points from other people playing me.”

Have you ever peed your football pants?

Schultz: “Uh, yeah. Have you ever seen the guy on the sidelines, kneeling by the bench? And there’s open seats, and he’s kneeling in front of the bench, and he’s got a bottle of water and he’s splashing it on his leg?”

Schultz: “Sometimes times get a little tough. You have to make sure you wear the right pants. If you’re wearing white pants, you better be hydrated. If we are at home, we have options for that. But if you get caught in a place where you have to go into the locker room just to say (expletive), yeah, maybe you’d be better off kneeling there.”

I always thought in general, if you play for the Cowboys, it’s like Hard Knocks all the time. I mean, the cameras are always there. Something always happens in the first year. It must be a different thing playing for the Cowboys than playing for the Browns.

Schultz: “We hear this from guys who play here and then go somewhere else. Like, you don’t understand it until you go. For me, this is completely normal. This is all I know.”
