Lucasfilm’s decision to terminate LucasArts has been hailed by fans as one of the company’s worst decisions. Following this huge change, Lucasfilm signed a 10-year licensing agreement with EA to exclusively produce Star Wars video games. In those 10 years, EA only made five games (including the upcoming Jedi: Survivor).

Unfortunately, during the franchise EA decided to prioritize their IP over Star Wars and as a result more Star Wars games were canceled than were produced during their tenure. While EA has delivered some really fun games, nothing compares to the golden age of LucasArts in the 90’s and 2000’s when tons of games were made every year.

Due to its similar gameplay, many have called Battle for Naboo a spiritual sequel to the classic game Rogue Squadron. Although the games have similar mechanics, a completely new gameplay mechanism was created for this game.

Another very cool element that the game added was ground combat, which allowed players to use multiple vehicles such as tanks, fast cars, and transports. See the article : Ubisoft’s Roller Champions will soon be canceled, claimed. Even 22 years later, Battle for Naboo is still fun to play.

7 Star Wars: Rebel Assault II

Rebel Assault II was so ahead of its time. Using technology similar to the original Mortal Kombat games, live actors with real props were filmed and inserted into the game.

The game plays like a train shooter, but also includes vehicular combat, leaving something for all Star Wars fans. Developed by a team of just 15 people, the game was completed in just 18 months, a time frame that now seems impossible for a video game, according to Discovery Youtube.

6 Star Wars: Dark Forces

6 Star Wars: Dark Forces

Dark Forces was LucasArts answer to Doom. The level design has been highly praised as it takes the player on an adventure across the galaxy that includes planets like Nar Shaddaa and Coruscant five years before it debuted in The Phantom Menace.

Prior to the establishment of the new Canon, the Dark Forces were the true origin of the stolen original Death Star plans. The game follows former Emperor Kylo Katarn, who works as a mercenary for the Rebel Alliance. His character’s entire history is one that Star Wars fans want to see adapted to Canon.

5 Star Wars: The Clone Wars

The Clone Wars video game was released before both Clone Wars animated series to coincide with the home video release of Attack of the Clones. Even in the last 20 years, not many people have talked about this game.

Developed by Pandemic, the game introduced many similar mechanics that the studio would later use again in their 2 Battlefront games a few years later. The game begins with the Battle of Geonosis and then transitions to an original story set shortly after Episode II, where players can play as Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Mace Windu.

4 Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire

Shadows of the Empire is the gold standard for Star Wars video games, cited by many as one of the best retro Star Wars games. Released in 1996, the game was part of Lucasfilm’s massive multimedia project, also named Shadows of the Empire. A line of toys, comics, books, a video game, and even a full original score were created in what Thrillist called “a multimedia event designed to achieve the scale of a new Star Wars movie … without actually making a new Star Wars movie.”

The game opens with the Battle of Hoth, which sends players straight into the action in a snowy speeder. Shadows of the Empire also introduced fans to Dash Rendar, who quickly became a fan favorite. However, he has yet to physically appear in any Canon project to date.

3 Star Wars: Bounty Hunter

Considered by many fans to be one of the best Star Wars games, it hasn’t been talked about much lately. Bounty Hunter is a story centered around Jango Fett and follows him before the events of his appearance in Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

The game explores his origins and his first encounter with Count Dooku. In terms of gameplay, there are many features and various gadgets that Fett can use. It was way ahead of its time and should be used as a blueprint for all future open world Star Wars bounty hunter games.

2 Star Wars: Battlefront II (2005)

While the EA version of the game has now achieved mass popularity, Battlefront II was initially released with problems and criticism due to the introduction of microtransactions that required players to spend money to win. After returning that, the game ended up being a solid online multiplayer.

Even years later, Battlefront II still has an active community with new mods and maps created regularly. While the game already has so much content, there are thousands of free add-ons to install that will allow players to never get bored with it.

1 Star Wars Galaxies

With popular MMOs like World of Warcraft and Runescape, LucasArts teamed up with Sony Online Entertainment to create Star Wars galaxies to compete in the market. The game was extremely popular and had three expansion packs. After the release of the final expansion, the game still remained active among players until it was finally closed to shepherd in The Old Republic, its successor.

Star Wars Galaxies was the ultimate escape for any fan of the franchise, allowing the player to truly experience what it’s like to live in a fictional world. Despite the closure of the game, there are still emulations of the game that allow players to return to the game world. All emulations are free to play and remain open until today.
