343 is currently investigating an issue that reports that Halo Infinite has been downloading massive amounts of data during each multiplayer game, in some cases, nearly 1GB.

First highlighted by @NicmeistaR, after each game, the game client is said to use between 305Mb and 900Mb of data. This caused an outcry as playing the game for several hours could intentionally destroy the player’s data in one night.

In response to this, @HaloSupport Twitter said: “The team is investigating reports of #HaloInfinite downloading additional data after multiplayer. Progress on this will be included in the August Drop Pod update.”

After that the players reacted badly, especially when there were several issues with the game that have not been fixed yet.

One user said: “Your game becomes unplayable for some people because they can’t financially cover the cost of unlimited data.”

It is unclear whether this issue will be resolved as soon as other players begin to notice increased network traffic, especially players with speed caps.

It is also not clear what caused this huge data boom. Some people speculated that the game was intended to save replays, however, other users noticed a large data increase within a few minutes of the game, before saving anything.

Halo Infinite is currently suffering from a number of issues that have plagued the game for months. An ongoing “desync” issue has not yet been resolved because 343 has allocated resources elsewhere.

The issue stems from the game’s client and game servers having compatibility issues, leading to situations where attacks don’t register because the client and server each think the player is in a different location.

Halo Infinite’s co-op mode, which has been delayed several times, will allow everyone participating to progress their own campaign.

Halo Infinite was also released without the ability to replay campaign missions after completion – unless users start a new save file.

In an April development update, 343 said it was targeting a “late August” release of the game’s online co-op mode.

Halo veteran Paul Bertone recently joined 343 as the studio’s technical director.

He worked on Halo 1-3, ODST and Reach over a decade at Bungie, where he served as design director until 2012.
