3 Pawnbarian (2021)
Roguelike sword-and-magic indie is pitching Pawnbarian against a dungeon full of ferocious monsters. Using cards from your deck to mimic the movement of classic chess pieces, your single killer will destroy everything that stumbles. Cards can be upgraded, allowing you to push enemy pieces around or deal area damage as well.
The Pawnbarian is far hardier than the average chess piece, and can survive several attempts to capture before being brought down. There are even several Pawnbarians to play as, each with their own abilities and playing style!
2 Chessaria: The Tactical Adventure (2018)
Chess puzzles are a good alternative to play against other people, Chessaria: The Tactical Adventure takes the concept of chess puzzles into a fantasy RPG setting with good results. To take advantage of the battlefield, you must lead your elf or orc army to victory.
Chessaria even has business and boss fights. With over a hundred levels and multiplayer options, they should keep chess fanatics and fantasy gamers equally busy for hours on end.
