At least seven people died in central Alabama and Georgia on Thursday after a massive storm system swept across the southern US region, spawning several destructive tornadoes.
Local authorities hope to get a better picture of the extent of the damage Friday as the weather clears.

He said rescue operations are underway for people who may be trapped under trees blown down by the wind.
In Georgia, a passenger died after a tree fell on a vehicle, Butts County Coroner Lacey Prue told the Associated Press.
