(Washington, D.C.) – Today Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-Richvale) announced his nomination from 13 Northern California residents as candidates to the United States Service Academies. the us Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marines Academy each require a nomination by Congress to participate. The approval process is highly competitive.

LaMalfa. “Studying at any of our nation’s service academies is an amazing honor and achievement and provides an opportunity to acquire a world-class education while preparing for leadership roles in the armed forces. Every nomination was well deserved, as it takes students of the toughest courage, of the highest caliber, and of impeccable moral character to receive one. I would also like to thank our selection committee for their professionalism and unbiased interviews with the potential candidates. I wish each candidate well in their future endeavors and service to our nation.”
Congressman LaMalfa’s nominees were recommended by a committee of Northern California community leaders and veterans from various branches of the military. The committee recommended a number of nominees after surveying and carefully reviewing the academic and leadership experiences of all students who applied for the nomination. After the nomination, the students now have to apply with other nominees for a position at the academies. Academy officials will begin announcing appointments in January.
