MEXICO CITY — Today marks the bicentennial of bilateral relations between the United States and Mexico.

In honor of the ties that have united us for two centuries, the Special Adviser to the US President for the Americas Christopher Dodd and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Marcelo Ebrard signed the Declaration of Bicentennial Friendship at the Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE) in Mexico City. Along with US Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar, Special Counsel Dodd and Secretary Ebrard also opened an SRE art exhibit focusing on works by Mexican artists, Americans living in Mexico, and binational societies.

The bicentennial marks more than the relationship between our governments. It offers a unique opportunity to celebrate the ties that bind our people on both sides of our border.

Recent and Upcoming Events

During December, governments, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and various partners will host more than 200 events in Mexico and the United States to commemorate the bicentennial. They span 26 Mexican states, 19 U.S. states, as well as Washington, D.C., and include dozens of virtual events. We highlight:
