Former African Union diplomat Arikana Chihombori-Quao does not see much hope for this week’s US-Africa Summit.
US officials see Africans as people who “need help” or “should be told what to do”, which is destroying relations between Africa and Washington, according to the former US representative to the African Union. Arikana Chihombori-Quao.
“The U.S. needs to call a timeout and treat Africans with respect,” he told host Steve Clemons, adding that this week’s White House-hosted U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit “will fail when Americans don’t treat Africans equally.”
According to Chihombori-Quao, African unity is the only way to make the continent less dependent on external powers.
