On October 6, Secretary Blinken will continue his regional tour in Lima, Peru, where he will lead the US delegation to the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS). Secretary Blinken will address some of the regional issues of mutual interest and reaffirm the commitment of the US to the OAS and this year’s theme, “Together Against Inequality and Discrimination.” He will chair the Summit Implementation Review Group, a ministerial-level meeting, to discuss the implementation of the resolutions from the Ninth Summit of the Americas and to strengthen the important role of the OAS in promoting democracy, human rights, sustainable development, and security cooperation throughout the country. Western Hemisphere, consistent with the principles enshrined in the OAS Charter and the 2001 Inter-American Democratic Charter.
Secretary Blinken will also lead the immigration minister on the Los Angeles Declaration, addressing the irregular migration of our regional partners. In addition to meeting with OAS Secretary General Almagro, Secretary Blinken will speak with President Pedro Castillo and Foreign Minister César Landa to discuss increasing regional security, strengthening democratic governance, protecting the environment, and promoting economic development. Secretary Blinken will raise the importance of combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing and the impact it has on local communities and ecosystems.
