I join my colleagues in the State Department as we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. This month we will honor the contribution of over 60 million Americans of Hispanic, Hispanic, Hispanic and Latino origin to our great nation, and the many ways that make the United States a stronger, more diverse and vibrant country.

Within the State Department, many colleagues of Hispanic origin have played and continue to play a key role in the development of US foreign policy, serving as an integral part of our workforce at all levels. The Hispanic Employee Council of Foreign Affairs Agencies (HECFAA) plays a key role in representing this workforce community. In celebration of its 40th anniversary, I commend HECFAA for its leadership in promoting Latin American recruitment, retention and career development, and in promoting a workforce for foreign affairs that values diversity.

While we continue to work to make the Department more inclusive, I am proud of the progress we are making, and every day I see my Hispanic, Hispanic, Hispanic and Hispanic colleagues making the Department stronger and more alive. Together with all my colleagues, I support this effort and wish you all a productive and enjoyable Latin Heritage Month.
