The United States Congress approved $288.6 million in foreign military funding for Poland. This funding, announced by Secretary Blinken in Kyiv on September 8 and making Poland one of the largest recipients of foreign military assistance outside of Ukraine, is intended to enhance Poland’s ability to deter and to defend against the increased threat from Russia.
Poland has given extraordinary support to Ukraine in the face of the new Russian invasion. These funds will accelerate the replacement of capabilities that Poland has been able to provide from its own stocks to bolster Ukraine’s defence, including main battle tanks. We continue to encourage countries to donate urgently needed capabilities to Ukraine, as well as to start contracting defense companies to start production of new capabilities for Ukraine as soon as possible. .
This funding is part of a comprehensive package, announced on September 8, of foreign military funding to strengthen the security of Ukraine and 17 of its neighbors, including Poland, which are potentially threatened by future Russian aggression.
