The Department of Defense invites the media to cover the December 3-17 pre-trial proceedings of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, the defendant charged in the attack on the USS Cole (DDG 67).
Proceedings will take place at the Expeditionary Legal Complex located at Naval Station Guantanamo Bay (NSGB) Cuba and will be broadcast to selected CCTV sites.
Media may choose to travel to NSGB if they agree to the coverage gaps outlined below and are willing to pay the associated flight fees ($800); Coverage windows are determined by flights, which are from Saturday to Saturday. Specific ground rules will follow upon registration.
Members of the media should note that the primary purpose of this invitation is to cover military commissions. Tours of the detention facilities are not available. Requests for reports on Guantanamo issues unrelated to military commissions—such as naval base installations or personnel—must be coordinated in advance through the respective public official with authority over those issues. OMC Public Affairs can provide point of contact information as needed.
*Media can choose to stay longer than one week.
