EUGENE, Ore., July 24 (Reuters) – The United States won its third consecutive world title in the women’s 4×400 meters relay on Sunday, finishing clear in 3:17.79 ahead of Jamaica and Great Britain to close the World Championships. world of Eugene with a 13th gold medal on home soil.

The women’s relay was scheduled as the final track event instead of the men’s race for the first time in Eugene, where the host nation finished away and topped the medal table with 13 golds and a championship record 33 medals overall.

“It’s a blessing to come here and compete. Just to finish with two gold medals for Team USA is awesome,” Diggs said. “I just wanted to give my team everything I had and that was amazing.”

Wilson said, “It was definitely a different environment. The crowd was crazy and I knew I had to do my best.”

McLaughlin, who inherited Felix’s crown as the smoothest runner on the track, described the night as unreal. “We had such a young team. It was put together at the last minute and to see them all come together after such a long college season, I’m so grateful to be a part of it.

“I’m the oldest in the squad,” said the 22-year-old. I’m so proud. The next generation of the American team is taking over. No better way to end the game.”
