Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelensky, in Washington, D.C. today. The Secretary emphasized the comprehensive and continuing commitment of the United States to support Ukraine’s victory in Russia’s unjust and unprovoked war. Secretary and First Lady Zelenska spoke of the enormous and growing human cost of a full-scale Russian invasion. The Secretary condemned in the strongest possible terms Russia’s brutal attacks, which continue to injure and kill innocent civilians and destroy homes, hospitals, schools and other civilian infrastructure – including the July 14 attack on Vinica that killed three children.

Secretary Blinken praised the work of First Lady Zelenska to help Ukrainians affected by the war. He reiterated that the United States will continue to provide assistance to help Ukraine respond to the significant economic and humanitarian challenges it faces, including support for the First Lady’s mental health initiative for war-affected citizens. The Secretary reiterated that the United States remains committed to helping the people of Ukraine recover and rebuild from the devastation wrought by President Putin’s unjust war.
