Disabled people are ‘stuck in their homes’ and feel excluded from society because travel passes have stopped working, a charity has said.
These allow them to use Transport for Wales (TfW) services at reduced fares.
But users need to prove they’ve received a benefit called Personal Independence Payments (PIP) and many are still awaiting evaluations.
The Department of Work and Pensions, which assesses people, said waiting times had “significantly improved”.
“I don’t leave the house,” said Lara Warlow, 42, of Bridgend.
“I’ve gotten to the point where I don’t even notice that I don’t do anything anymore. It’s just the way my life is now.”
Lara struggles to afford travel without the reduced fares. She has been unable to work since 2017 after an accident in which she fell 9 meters from a window.
She was left with vocal cord paralysis, hearing loss, and Bell’s palsy, which causes weakness in the facial muscles.

The only social thing he’s done in the last couple of months is a weekly samba drumming class in Cardiff.
While she awaits her PIP assessment, she has limited her travels to save money, but admits it could be months.
TfW offers a number of discounts to people with disabilities, including a one-third discount on some services.
Disability Wales said Lara’s was a common story, with more and more people telling the organization they can’t go out because the discount passes have stopped working, meaning limited funds won’t roll over.
“It’s making disabled people really anxious because their daily lives tend to cost more than non-disabled people,” said the charity’s Alex Osborne.
“Then, when we’re in a time like this, with the cost of everything going up, they don’t have a lot of money set aside every month.
“The fact that they now have to try and pay full price for their trip, means they can’t afford it, and it means they just don’t get out or have to give up something else.”

He said it should be made easier for people to prove their status to access discounted services, adding that many have felt “left out and stuck in their homes because they can’t renew their subscriptions.”
Ms Osborne urged TfW to consider accepting other documents as proof of eligibility, adding: ‘Maybe accept a blue card as proof, or even a medical certificate.’
The Welsh Government, which sets the rules on criteria for season tickets, said it was “fully committed to supporting the rights of people with disabilities in Wales and is working closely with local authorities to ensure that assessments are carried out in a timely manner.” “.
TfW said: “We give people ample notice of upcoming revisions so they can schedule PIP appointments to obtain the required evidence for a disabled person’s bus pass.
“If someone is deemed permanently disabled by their local authority, we no longer ask them to regularly demonstrate their eligibility.”
The UK government’s Department of Work and Pensions, which is responsible for evaluating the PIP, said it was “committed to ensuring that people can access financial support through the PIP in a timely manner”.
A spokesman said it was constantly working to make improvements, adding: ‘The latest statistics show that clearance times have improved significantly, returning to pre-pandemic levels.’
