The income from travel of American hotels is projected to end in 2022 14% above 2019, but the income from the hotel business should come within 1% of the 2019 level, which is about with a new study released this month (Oct. 2022) by the American Hotel &amp. ; Lodging Association (AHLA) and Kalibri Labs.

The rates are no longer adjusted for inflation, and the hotel’s revenue recovery may take several years.

Post-epidemic recovery remains uneven, especially in large cities and areas where travel is still delayed. Among the top 50 U.S. markets, 80% expect to see revenue from hotel travel exceed 2019 levels, while only 40% expect to reach that level for revenue from business. Many urban markets, which rely heavily on business from special events and community meetings, are on the road to recovery.

Here’s how to determine the top 10 markets for hotel business and travel revenue this year:

Rising incomes are leading to historic job opportunities for hotel workers, with more than 115,000 hotel jobs now open nationwide. Hotels are offering more incentives to fill vacancies—81% have increased wages, 64% have offered more flexibility in hours, and 35% have expanded benefits, according to a survey by the AHLA representative in September 2022.

“The hotel industry continues its journey towards recovery, but we still have a way to go before we are fully there,” said the AHLA President & CEO Chip Rogers. “That’s why AHLA is focused on working with members, legislators and partners in markets that are slowly recovering to ensure the full return of meetings, conferences, and professional travel in addition to vacations and business travel. At the same time, the industry continues to expand its talent pool by highlighting the unprecedented job opportunities offered by hotels. Thanks to higher wages, better benefits, and more flexibility and opportunities for advancement, there’s never been a better time to work in a hotel.”

To help hotels fill job openings and increase awareness of the hotel’s 200+ job opportunities, the AHLA Foundation’s “A Place to Stay” advertising campaign is currently active in 14 cities, including Atlanta. , Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New York, Orlando, Phoenix, San Diego, and Tampa. AHLA recently completed a series of “Hospitality in Action” events in major cities across the country. The announcement sought to increase business and leisure travel while demonstrating the strength of the hotel industry in investing in its employees, protecting employees and guests, and supporting local communities.
