Expedia CEO Peter Kern told CNBC on Monday that business travelers are back. In the dark times of the Covid pandemic at the end of 2020, he announced that they would be back and that day has come.

“You’re here in Seattle. And I travel all the time. So, I think business travel is back. I’ve said from the beginning that business travel is going to come back. We’re seeing it everywhere,” Kern said. with Jim Cramer, who was in Expedia’s hometown for “Mad Money.”

Fast forward to today and it did, Kern said. “People are traveling like crazy. If you’ve been to an airport, you know that. Everyone complains about it. It’s too crowded, not enough staff.”

Last year, Expedia agreed to sell its corporate travel arm to American Express Global Business Travel. As part of the deal, Expedia became a shareholder of Amex GBT and entered into a long-term strategic partnership.

Kern’s company also operates Expedia, its namesake service, and others in the travel industry, including Hotels.com, Hotwire, Travelocity and Orbitz. The company is also behind Vrbo, short for owner-occupied vacation rentals. It competes with Airbnb.

With all these brands under one roof, Kern and Expedia certainly have their fingers on the pulse of the travel industry. The CEO said travel is booming. “There’s no question all summer and it was still going strong into September. There doesn’t seem to be much of a let-up,” he said.
