Today, the State Department released its annual Travel Advisory for Mexico. I encourage you to read the full Travel Advisory for information on the security environment in all Mexican states and to keep an eye on the U.S. Department of State’s travel updates. for the latest security information.
I congratulate Nayarit, Estado de Mexico, and Coahuila for improved security and improved conditions in the 2022 Travel Advisory.
There are six countries that the State Department is asking US citizens not to travel to: Colima, Guerrero, Michoacán, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas.
Countries where security issues are emerging highlight the importance of the Bicentennial Plan between the United States and Mexico. With that plan, the United States and Mexico are committed to improving security and better protecting our people. Without security, there is no success. It is important to reaffirm our commitment to the safety of citizens by providing training and resources to Mexican justice and security agencies and deepening our cooperation. The United States will continue to work with our allies, friends, and neighbors as we build a peaceful future together.
I will continue to personally engage with all stakeholders and government levels to advance the U.S.-Mexico shared security initiative. In doing so, I will visit areas with security challenges to continue promoting this collective challenge and help fulfill our countries’ commitments in the July 12 Joint Declaration by President Biden and Lopez Obrador where who said:
“Through the Bicentennial Plan for Security, Public Health and a Secure Society, we reaffirmed our commitment to work together to address the major security challenges affecting our communities, including the challenges of fentanyl, arms and human trafficking, and to reduce the levels of drugs, violence and alcoholism. We are committed to deepening our cooperation to fight the criminal organizations that fuel violence in our two countries. We have confirmed our efforts of cooperation between law enforcement agencies to address these critical security challenges.”
