Travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic and entry requirements for international travelers are being eased or eliminated around the world, more than two years into the global health crisis.

However, traveling abroad is still not as easy to achieve as it was before the pandemic. Many of the world’s most visited countries have lifted remaining restrictions, but others are still reviewing arrivals in an effort to slow the spread and protect populations.

Here’s what travelers can expect in the world’s top destinations by the end of 2022.

Egypt lifted its COVID-19 travel restrictions on June 17.

Kenya is open to fully vaccinated travelers with no testing requirements. However, unvaccinated travelers over the age of five will need a negative COVID-19 PCR test done 72 hours prior to departure and a $30 rapid antigen test upon arrival.

Morocco is open to travelers who present proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test result less than 72 hours after completing the health form.

South Africa is open indefinitely from the end of June.

Asia

China remains a difficult destination to visit. US Embassy & The country’s consulates have warned that “all incoming travelers must be quarantined for at least 14 days upon arrival and may undergo blood tests upon arrival and release from quarantine, as well as oral, nasal and anal tests”.

International travel in Japan remains very limited to package group tours.

From August 1, all travelers will be able to enter Malaysia regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status, and will not require pre-departure or on-arrival testing.

South Korea has reopened for international travel, but visitors are subject to testing requirements regardless of vaccination status.

Thailand is open to fully vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers with a recent negative PCR test or an ATK test administered by a doctor within 72 hours of travel.

Vietnam removed COVID-related testing for all international arrivals in May.

Caribbean

Effective June 19, fully vaccinated travelers will be able to visit the Bahamas with proof, unvaccinated visitors ages 2 and older must have a negative PCR or rapid antigen test three days prior to travel.

The British Virgin Islands lifted its COVID testing requirements in mid-July.

Travelers can continue to visit the Dominican Republic without any COVID-related restrictions. However, visitors arriving by air must complete a free electronic entry and exit (Electronic Ticket) combining the Traveler’s Health Affidavit, Customs Declaration and International Embarkation/Disembarkation forms.

Jamaica completed its pre-tour testing requirements in April.

Puerto Rico is open to international travelers with proof of vaccination, while Americans can visit without restrictions.

Saint Lucia is open to fully vaccinated visitors and unvaccinated travelers 5 years or older with proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test completed within five days of arrival. Passengers must also fill out a health protection form.

The US Virgin Islands eliminated entry requirements related to COVID on June 1.

Europe

Croatia has also lifted restrictions related to COVID-19.

France lifted its remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions on August 1, meaning travelers do not need a vaccination, proof of recovery or a negative test result to visit.

Germany is open to international visitors without any COVID-related restrictions.

Greece no longer imposes travel restrictions related to COVID-19.

Travelers can also visit Iceland without worrying about pandemic-related travel restrictions.

Italy abolished entry requirements, such as proof of vaccination, on June 1.

Travelers from the US and many other countries outside of Europe can visit Amsterdam and the Netherlands in general with proof of vaccination or recovery from the virus.

Those traveling to Spain from outside the European Union or Schengen countries will need a certificate verifying full vaccination, a negative PCR or rapid antigen test or proof of recovery.

There are no COVID-related restrictions for travelers visiting Turkey.

The UK lifted the rest of its travel-related COVID-19 restrictions in mid-March, easing travel to London and other tourism-friendly destinations.

Middle East

Israel lifted pandemic-related travel requirements in May.

As host of the 2022 World Cup, Qatar has reopened to international visitors, but travelers will want to understand their requirements, if any, based on their country of origin.

Saudi Arabia lifted most of its COVID-19 restrictions on travelers in March, but still requires proof of insurance covering the cost of treatment if visitors contract the virus.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is open to travelers who can verify proof of vaccination, or proof of recovery or a negative PCR test done 48 hours prior to arrival.

North America

Bermuda remains among the strictest destinations worldwide, requiring proof of vaccination, a negative pre-arrival test and a $40 travel permit.

Canada has extended its COVID restrictions until at least the end of September. Visitors must be fully vaccinated or show a recent negative test for COVID-19 and quarantine for two weeks upon arrival. Visitors must also download the ArriveCAN app to enter their passenger details.

Visitors to Mexico will not experience any travel restrictions related to COVID.

The United States eliminated testing and recovery requirements for international travelers in June, but still requires non-arriving citizens to have proof of vaccination unless they are exempt.

Oceania

Australia lifted its COVID-related travel restrictions in early July.

Fiji requires visitors to be fully vaccinated, have proof of insurance and a rapid antigen test on arrival before booking.

Polynesia has eased travel requirements, making it easy to visit Tahiti, Bora Bora and other favorites. However, passengers should update according to their flight itinerary.

Travelers to New Zealand must be tested on arrival and on the fifth or sixth day of their stay and must complete a New Zealand Traveler Declaration form prior to arrival.

South America

Visitors to Argentina must submit an electronic affidavit 48 hours prior to departure confirming their vaccination status and absence of symptoms of COVID-19, as well as proof of travel medical insurance that includes hospitalization, quarantine and transportation coverage for COVID-19 must also provide them if they are planned. to stay for more than 24 hours.

Brazil is open to passengers who have been vaccinated before boarding the flight.

Passengers traveling to Chile must complete the “Travel Affidavit” form online up to 48 hours before boarding the flight.

Colombia mandates that international travelers must provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result within 48 hours (rapid antigen) or 72 hours (PCR) of travel.

Peru requires visitors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or test negative within 48 hours of their flight. Passengers must also complete a Health Declaration.
