It’s not all doom my friends.

Despite the insane headlines out there from many mainstream media, this July 4th holiday weekend was not a weekend from hell.

Yes, there were problems, but it must be noted that the flight experience is not a complete mess as so many others out there want you to believe.

I flew from Orlando, Florida to Atlanta, Georgia with Delta Air Lines last Saturday and I have no complaints.

I’ve been on a plane at least once a month, sometimes twice a month, so far in 2022, and the crowds and queues were only slightly larger than my flights in previous months this year, but not much. The TSA continues to survey over 2 million passengers per day, with June 4 as the last day it only hit 1.9 million passengers.

We arrived at the airport three hours before departure to be on the safe side, because it was a Saturday and a holiday weekend, but the security line was a breeze. The airport looked well staffed and well prepared to handle the increase in traffic.

I know this is not the case everywhere else in the world, but it is important to note that in the big picture of all scheduled flights, there is usually a small percentage of flights that are canceled on a daily basis.

Still, it’s trendy to harp on the travel industry right now that it will continue to be a chaotic summer travel season.

Of course, some will experience delays or a potential cancellation. That is life. Did people forget during the pandemic that some delays and cancellations are a natural part of the aviation industry? It will never be 100% perfect.

Although the delays and cancellations have increased somewhat in recent times, it is not this insane extravaganza that some savvy people are constantly addressing.

People need to be warned that air traffic is picking up and the crowds are getting bigger, but I feel that some are taking it a little too far with headlines that include phrases like “a hell of a summer trip” and “nightmares from flights” – is it really necessary?

Let’s continue to share our positive travel experiences – the world needs to hear more about how great it is to travel.
